So there I was, caught in quarantine, anxious and tired.
I was browsing Netflix and this strange promotional clip for an anime called Dorohedoro appeared.
It caught my attention, I gave the first episode a try - and quickly became obsessed with the weird world fashioned by Japanese comic creator Q Hayashida. Full of offhand humour, body horror, and casual musings on pleasure and pain - set in a universe of warring mob sorcerers and downtrodden city denizens too weak to fight back.
Over the last month I have written a piece for Soda and Telepaths and recorded a podcast for Deconstructing Comics, all in the name of scratching my itch for this bewildering manga series. Dorohedoro is now finished, so if you haven’t yet had the dubious pleasure, there are 23 volumes of manga for you to enjoy.
